I have been an ESL teacher all my professional life and it is something I love to do the more I do it. As years have gone by in this profession, the more aware I am how empowering it is to teach a language, especially English. I am lucky enough to have former students who are now themselves English teachers and it is truly a rewarding experience. To know that by doing my job people are experiencing a positive impact pushes me to find better ways to teach.
A task-based, contextual learning methodology is one of those ways. This methodology allows me to be creative in lesson planning by finding those tasks that will have a clear outcome while being dynamic which poses a challenge.
Additionally, online teaching presents a challenge and an opportunity. It has been my experience since 2015 that classes online offer flexibility to use a number of ways to get teaching done: presentations, dialogues, videos, audios, songs, texts, to name some. The welcomed challenge is in creating a friendly environment where participation from every member of the group is promoted and mistakes are part of the learning process.
I look forward to having you as my student.
